JONAS C. SAUNDERS

(1970-2010)

Jonas was a catalyst in the formation of the Saunders Winter McNeil law firm where he managed the litigation section. After graduating from the University of Michigan (B.A. 1993) and the University of Detroit Mercy (J.D. 1996), Jonas joined the in-house corporate legal staff of Ford Motor Company. During his seven year term of service with Ford, Jonas quickly distinguished himself and became an integral member of the general counsel’s office. In personal tribute to Jonas’s service, Ford Chairman William C. Ford, Jr., wrote “During the seven years Jonas worked for the Office of General Counsel at Ford, he quickly earned a reputation as an honest and trustworthy advocate of the company, treating everyone with dignity and respect. He was a true professional who will be remembered for his engaging personality, easy going manner, great sense of humor, and loyalty to his friends.” While practicing with the Saunders Winter McNeil firm, Jonas worked extensively for Jaguar and Land Rover, British affiliates of Ford, and eventually became head of product liability litigation for Jaguar/Land Rover of North America, Inc.

At the time of his passing, Jonas was serving as the President of the Spring Lake Public Schools Foundation, President of the Spring Lake Junior Sailing Association, and Treasurer of the Spring Lake Junior Golf Foundation.

We continue to honor Jonas’s contributions to our firm and the community and most importantly his commitment to family. Jonas is survived by his wife Shelly, and his children Lilly, Phoebe, Porter and Clara.
